Dolly Parton remembers Michael Jackson →
If you’d like to see what a solemn Dolly Parton looks like (no, this woman should never be sad! or wear black!), watch the video she just posted remembering Michael Jackson. If there’s anyone who could honestly say that they always thought he had “the heart of angel,” it’s Dolly Parton, who sees the good in everyone. In it, she also encourages us to live every day as...

Sorry Plum Sykes, you're no longer #1 on my Vogue...
I don’t know why I keep reading American Vogue — the editorials are bland, the covers uninspiring (seriously, who is Sienna Miller fucking to keep getting them?!), and the articles insipid at best. I should really just save the money and put it towards the British and Australian versions that are so bad for my wallet (but so so pretty!). While I’ve always had a special place of rage in...

The 10-Ingredient Shopping Trip →
nutritionista: By Mark Bittman (will this man STOP being amazing for 5 seconds?) Mark assumes you’ve stocked your pantry with easy basics like spices, good cooking oils and vinegars, long-keeping carbs like pasta, rice and udon noodles, as well as soy sauce, garlic, lemon, butter and Parmesan cheese. With these staples, you can just pick up a few fresh ingredients every now and then, and “cook...

Jodi Picoult and the Anxious Parent →
Parental inadequacy and elaborate misfortune repeatedly conspire in her books to produce altogether new horrors; by the end of “My Sister’s Keeper,” the family is left to confront a tragedy unprompted by the central maladies, one meant to serve as a cosmic rebuke to the mother’s stilted management. (And one so insistent in its shock value that it may inspire the reader to deposit the book under...

Along for the Ride - Sarah Dessen →
It’s been so long since Auden slept at night. Ever since her parents’ divorce—or since the fighting started. Now she has the chance to spend a carefree summer with her dad and his new family in the charming beach town where they live. A job in a clothes boutique introduces Auden to the world of girls: their talk, their friendship, their crushes. She missed out on all that, too busy being the...

Back in NYC.
Apparently the train engine caught fire, so we sat in an unconditioned, powered-down car for three hours until we were finally transferred to a LIRR to complete the seven minute journey to Penn Station. It’s going to be a good week.

FML of the day:
Applied for amazing, amazing job last week. Did a phone interview that went swimmingly. Completed the sample assignments they gave to rave reviews. Was just called and asked to come in for interview #2. Somehow it escaped both sides that I was applying for the NYC office and not the Pittsburgh office, which is the one that is actually hiring.

Falling In Love With The Wolfboy →
Now that the whole world has seen the New Moon trailer, tweens everywhere are holding their breath is anticipation of the film’s November release. In the new film, a perpetually petulant Bella becomes distraught when Edward leaves town, and starts running with a pack of werecubs, including buff and brooding Jacob Black. Does this sound a little familiar to anyone else? It should, since...
